In the End, They Will Not Escape
Though the world has forgotten—perhaps more precisely, suppressed—the reality of the final judgment, we who are in Christ cannot afford to do the same lest we become discouraged. Consider the distress of the psalmist when he says:
"For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked...
They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily."
- Psalm 73:3, 8 (KJV)
Though we may easily relate to the psalmist's distress, we must also strive to relate to the psalmist's hope:
"When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors...
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works."
- Psalm 73:16-19, 27-28 (KJV)
Though the enemies of God may escape temporal justice in the present life, we are assured that they will not escape eternal justice in the final judgment.
Soli Deo gloria.
